SIXTY AND SAVVY

HOW DID WE GET HERE AND WHAT'S AHEAD?

I love to go to garage sales and rummage sales because I usually find something unusual there that I can't find at the stores.
I never know what it will be until I see it. I found a great dresser for $30 for putting out of season sweaters and other clothes. My husband found a great London Fog trench coat at a dollar bag sale at a rummage sale. Funny, he likes rummage sales, but hates garage sales. They're basically the same concept.

Some people don't like them and say it's just junk, but I like the element of surprise and not knowing what treasure I might find.

Does anyone else here like garage sales and rummage sales?

Yes, I love them:)...but they have to have a certain look before I'll stop....if it seems to be just tons of clothes, I won't. John and I both love them....and we're in an apartment right now;) so you can imagine LOL, I could write my own horror story as to "what lies beneath the bed."

We don't frequent them like we did, we have to wait until we purchase a house, just no place left to put things:)

We did go to an estate sale the other day and I bought a gorgeous entry hall ( I have no entry hall at the moment mind you;) full length, rose gold-leafed mirror with the small bench that goes under it. I was delighted! smiled for days....of course, it's perched catty corner in the bedroom as a decorative piece right now...too heavy to hang unless we're stayin' for another year!;)

We collect antiques and the best garage or rummage sales are the ones where you find a treasure no one else suspect. I've found several of them.

When my daughter moved out, I turned her old bedroom into my office. I needed a bookcase and found a six-shelf piece that matches the color of my desk for $30 ... and they delivered it. What a bargain!

We're trying to downsize too though so I don't go as often as I used to either.

Well, I think I've topped the all time list of quasi rummage sales/garage sales. Here in Kingwood we have a site named kingwood yard sales....we drifted there the other night (because we're in the process of closing on a patio home) looking for a formal dining room set. We were astounded at what we found and so hurried out and bought it:)

The seller had a Stanley dining room set consisting of a large lit china closet, table with two extensions and six chairs for under $1,000. It was in perfect condition, they'd only sat on it through four occassions. The set originally cost close to $5,000. Needless to say we've sashayed to the garage to look at it endlessly:):)

I've now added Craig's Lists and Kingwood yard sale lists to my rummaging:)
